INDUSTRY:
South Africa’s economy relies on a variety of industries including manufacturing, chemicals, agriculture, tourism and most importantly, mining. The clothing and textiles, financial services and banking sectors have shown growth in recent years.
South Africa is a leading supplier of a variety of minerals and mineral products, these include gold, platinum, coal, copper, iron ore, manganese, lime and limestone, uranium, fluorspur,andalusite, zine, zirconium, vanadium, titanium, chrome and diamonds.
Agriculture consists largely of cattle and sheep farming and for growing crops. Maize is the principal crop followed by wheat, oats, cotton, sugar cane, fruits, vegetables, sorghum, groundnuts and sunflowers. Citrus and deciduous fruits are exported, as well as locally produced wines and flowers.
The government is actively encouraging both foreign and domestic investment by introducing incentives.
