The country has a fledgling mining industry; extractions are limited to salt and gypsum. Other resources include iron ore, uranium beryl and columbite which are not currently exploited.

Other industries include meat and fish processing, sugar refining, fruit and vegetable canning, textiles and leather goods.

The Somali oil industry has been disrupted due to the political unrest with the operating condition of the small refinery at Mogadishu being severely affected. At the moment, electricity generation is from thermal power stations, for which oil has to be imported.

An effective tool when trading within Somalia are credit status reports or company searches. Company information will include registration details, credit opinion, locations and financial information, where available.
