INDUSTRY:
The principal factors of Madagascar’s economy are agriculture, fishing and forestry. 80% of the workforce is employed in the agricultural sector producing rice, cassava, sugar cane, coffee, tropical fruits and sweet potatoes.
The oil industry is also an important factor, although the upstream potential is under-explored despite favourable initial explorations. The mining industry offers considerable potential for investment and development. Other industries include textile manufacturing and agricultural products processing.
