INDUSTRY:

The majority of the workforce is employed in agriculture and the main products are palm kernels, millet, cassava, bananas, plantains and rubber.

The mining industry in the Republic of Guinea is an important sector with products such as bauxite and aluminia. There are also deposits of iron ore, gold, diamonds and uranium. The country’s manufacturing sector is mainly focused on aluminia smelting.

Forestry accounts for a small part of the economy, however this industry has extensive potential for growth.

The Government actively encourages a free market economy and foreign investment and is implementing a programme of privatisation.
