INDUSTRY:

The principal crops grown are cocoa, rice, cassava, plantains, oranges, pineapples, groundnuts, corn, millet, oil palms, yams, maize and vegetables. Almost 60% of the population is involved in subsistence agriculture. In coastal areas, fishing is an important activity.

Ghana’s mining industry is a key sector in the economy and the principal minerals produced are gold, diamonds and bauxite. The oil industry is also important to the economy. The Tema Refinery provides most of the petroleum products required by the local market. Ghana also has a significant chemical industry.

Economy has grown consistently and has considerable foreign investment.

A free trade zone has been opened in Ghana's main port, Tema.
