INDUSTRY:

Agriculture is the basis of Eritrea’s economy and a large pecentage of the population is employed in farming and herding. The oil and mining industries are also important elements in the country’s economy and the government is actively seeking to diversify the economy away from the traditional agricultural base and into these industries together with tourism.

There are considerable mineral exploration potential, however this has not yet been exploited.

There is a small industrial sector and further developments are expected in the offshore oil, fishing and tourism industries.
