Historically one of the poorest country’s, recent progress in the oil sector is likely to change this, as the oil industry has the potential to dramatically improve the economy. Chad’s mining sector is largely undeveloped although studies suggest that there is alot of potential, particularly in gold, bauxite, uranium, silver and alluvial diamonds mining.

Chad’s current principal industries consist of cotton-ginning, textiles, sugar refining and the processing of agricultural products.

The government actively encourages foreign investment and has instigated various reforms to improve investment potential. Opportunities have arisen in the telecommunications, cotton and power sectors.
